The VLX API enables seamless integration with your existing business tools — from ERPs and CRMs to cloud storage platforms like Google Drive. Whether you need to automate inspection workflows, sync data across systems, or build custom dashboards, the API gives you full programmatic access to your organization's inspection data.

## Key API Capabilities

- **Create and Pre-fill Inspections:** Create inspections programmatically from any template, pre-fill question responses, set custom fields, and even assign tasks to team members — all in a single API call.
- **Share and Assign Inspections:** Share inspections with users as viewers, contributors, or assignees to coordinate field work across your team.
- **Get Inspection PDF Reports:** Retrieve completed inspection reports as PDFs, including KYPiT results, for archiving, compliance, or distribution.
- **Webhooks:** Receive real-time notifications when inspection statuses change or inspections are completed, enabling event-driven workflows.
- **Manage Custom Sets:** Create, update, and delete custom sets to keep your dropdown options and scoring configurations in sync with external systems.

## Getting Started

### Requesting API Access

To get started with the VLX API, contact our team at **developer\@vlx.ai**. We'll enable API access for your organization and walk you through the onboarding process.

### Generating Your API Key

Once API access has been enabled for your organization:

1. Log in to your VLX account.
2. Click the **gear icon (⚙️)** in the top-right corner to open **Settings**.
3. In the left sidebar, click **Developer** under Organization settings.
4. Select the **API key** tab.
5. Click **Generate API key**, give it an optional name for identification, and click **Generate**.
6. **Copy your API key immediately** — it will only be displayed once. Store it in a secure location such as a password manager.

**Important:** Your API key provides full access to your organization's data. Never share it publicly or commit it to source code repositories. You can only have one active API key at a time. If you need a new one, you can delete or regenerate the existing key from the same page — this will deactivate the old key immediately.

## Zapier Integration

VLX integrates directly with **Zapier**, connecting your inspection workflows to thousands of apps — no coding required. All you need is your VLX API key to get started — no webhook configuration needed.

### What You Can Automate

With VLX on Zapier, you can set up automated workflows (called "Zaps") that trigger whenever an inspection is completed. For example:

- **Save inspection reports to Google Drive** — Automatically upload the PDF report to a specific folder every time an inspection is completed.
- **Send email notifications** — Alert your team, clients, or stakeholders when a new inspection is finalized.
- **Log inspections to a spreadsheet** — Automatically add completed inspection details to a Google Sheet for tracking and reporting.
- **Create tasks in project management tools** — Trigger follow-up tasks in Asana, Trello, Monday.com, or other tools based on inspection results.
- **Push data to your CRM** — Sync inspection records to Salesforce, HubSpot, or other CRM platforms.

### Example: Automatically Saving Inspection Reports to Google Drive

Here's how to set up a Zap that saves every completed inspection report as a PDF in Google Drive:

1. **Create a new Zap** in your Zapier account.
2. **Set the Trigger** — Choose **VLX** as the trigger app, and select **"New Inspection Completed"** as the event. Connect your VLX account using your API key.
3. **Add an Action: Get Inspection Report** — Choose **VLX** again and select **"Get Inspection Report."** Map the Inspection ID from Step 1 into the Inspection ID field. This retrieves the PDF report URL for the completed inspection.
4. **Add an Action: Upload File to Google Drive** — Choose **Google Drive** as the action app and select **"Upload File."** Connect your Google Drive account, select your destination folder, and map the report file URL from Step 2 into the File field.
5. **Turn the Zap on** — Once all steps are configured and tested, publish the Zap. From now on, every completed inspection will automatically have its PDF report saved to your Google Drive.

The Zap checks for newly completed inspections every few minutes, so reports typically appear in your Google Drive within 2–15 minutes of inspection completion.

## Advanced Use Cases

Beyond Zapier, the VLX API enables more advanced integrations:

- **Feed data into analytics tools** like Metabase or Power BI for custom dashboards and reporting.
- **Sync data bidirectionally** with ERPs, asset management systems, or compliance platforms.
- **Automate inspection creation** by triggering pre-filled inspections from events in your CRM, ERP, or scheduling system.
