Group & Team Hierarchy
The Group & Team Hierarchy feature in VLX helps you scale your operations while keeping everything organized. This feature is especially useful for larger organizations with multiple departments, locations, or functions, allowing admins to create clear, intuitive navigation structures that reflect how work is done in the real world.
By grouping teams under custom labels and organizing them in a visual hierarchy, you can mirror your actual org structure—by region, department, client, or use case. This improves clarity, simplifies onboarding, and ensures users can quickly find what’s relevant to them.
Note: This feature is available on Professional+ and Enterprise plans.
Use Cases
- Organize inspection teams by region (e.g., North America, Europe)
- Separate workstreams like Project Management, Training, and Safety
- Create a scalable hierarchy for growing organizations with hundreds of teams
- Simplify team access and navigation for faster workflows
How to Set Up Hierarchies
1. Create Teams
- Go to Settings > Teams
- Click + New Team
- Name your team (e.g., "Field Operations", "Equipment")
- Optionally, add an emoji for quick visual identification
- Assign users to the team
📍 Tip: Emojis help users recognize teams at a glance in the sidebar.
2. Access Navigation
- Navigate to Settings > Navigation
- Click Manage Navigation
3. Organize Teams into Groups
- In the Navigation Manager, click + Create a Group
- Enter a Group Name (e.g., “North America”, “Client A”, “Texas Region”)
- Drag and drop teams into the group
- Use the three-dot menu (⋮) next to a group or team to Edit Label or Remove Label
You can also re-label teams in this view to better reflect your workflow, departments, or customer names.
4. Save and Scale
Once you’re done organizing, click Done. Your teams will now be grouped and displayed hierarchically in your sidebar navigation.
This setup allows you to:
- Mirror your real-world structure inside VLX
- Scale from 1 to 1,000 teams without cluttering or losing visibility
- Keep team permissions and assignments cleanly separated
